Rule(s) that apply:
8.1. After completing a reasonable follow-through, a player must make every effort to clear, so that when the ball rebounds from the front wall the opponent has:
8.1.3. the space to make a reasonable swing at the ball
My Thinking
Both non-strikers have hit the ball into a clear free space in the middle of court that the striker will be able to hit freely after it has bounced once.
However, both non-striker move in such a way towards the ball that when the striker wishes to strike, it is no longer safe due to “swing interference”.
This movement is absolutely contrary to Rule 8.1 and 8.1.3 (a) failing to clear, in fact doing the opposite, moving towards the ball and closing down the free space and (b) denying the striker the space to make a reasonable swing.
My Call (applying Rules 8.1 - 8,1,3 above) – Stroke for not making EVERY EFFORT to clear resulting in swing interference.
Words you can say to the players:
Stroke for not making EVERY EFFORT to clear resulting in swing interference.
Match Referee Decision
Let – incorrect decision encouraging players to move forward DELIBERATELY and prevent players from from playing the ball and getting away with it.
